We're wwoofing in this town outside of Toulouse. We've only been here 9 days, and IT IS ENOUGH. Luckily for us, there are two other wwoofers here from New Zealand. They are so much fun! I'm so happy that they are here and that we are able to spend time with them.
Something interesting that we did was go to the medieval town of Carcassonne last Friday. It was about 1 1/2 hours away. We just wanted to get away and check something out. It was fun!
Here I am with the Kiwis.
Derek and I were super excited to be at Carcassonne! (or to just be away from this hell hole.)
Why, you may be asking, do I call this place a hell hole? BECAUSE WE ARE NOT ORGANIC FARMING. We are helping this guy build a big garden in his back yard. It wouldn't be that bad, but this guy is a complete know-it-all jackass who takes literally every opportunity to make someone feel utterly retarded/unworthy of his conversation.
For three whole days, all we did was scrape the paint off of his garage door so he could paint it the nauseating shade of blue (see the shutter on the right) that his boring-as-hell girlfriend picked out.
OMG I LOVE SCRAPING PAINT.
Like really. 3 days.
Here are some shots of the "FARM"
See how every row is unfinished? We're planting at the same time as building the beds, and meanwhile, the poor tomato plants (which really should be huge and fruitful by now) are dying of thirst in tightly-packed planters just waiting for the stupid beds to get finished. We haven't finished a single task! And I think we've only eaten like 6 actual vegetables from the garden. One was the most disgusting pumpkin I've ever tasted. That lasted about 5 days.
There is a swimming pool, but the weather has been really cloudy, so we haven't wanted to swim.
This is our room. It is awful. We have to walk on the air mattress to get to anything, and the air mattress has us both sleeping poorly and our backs are in knots.
Last night, Derek took it upon himself to make a fire. We were entertained for a little while by this.
This guy also owns some land about 2 km from his house. It is on a steep slope, and although he has already planted stuff there, it is all dying from neglect. It is stupid. I fell on a thorn bush and cut up my legs pretty badly. He hasn't even finished his back yard and he has us spending time out here! It is so mindless. We haven't learned a single thing except that sometimes people use wwoofing to get free labor and company because they are too uninteresting/hard to deal with to make their own friends. Seriously.
